POSITION:     Part-Time EarlyWorks Museum Facilitator

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the EarlyWorks Children’s museum as part of the core part-time team. This includes hosting the museum experience for children and families by maintaining our exhibits, monitoring the museum for safety, and facilitating activities such as puppet shows, arts & crafts, reading stories, and leading other activities. This position also participates in our field trip educational programs by leading school groups through museum experiences. The EarlyWorks core team works approximately 12-20 hours per week. Museum facilitator shifts typically last 6 hours and occur between the hours of 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM. Field trip program shifts typically last 3-5 hours and occur between the hours of 8:30 AM and 2:00 PM. All team members must be available to work 3 out of 4 Saturdays in a month. The objective is to promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of local, regional and national history. This position is responsible for ensuring superior experiences for all visitors.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a safe, orderly and clean museum experience for all guests

  • Learn historical facts relating to the assigned museum site

  • Wear costume or uniform as required for a specific program or site

  • Engage visitors in conversation regarding the museum exhibits

  • Ensure that visitors have a memorable and positive experience

  • Assist in all other duties, as assigned

 

 

RECOMMENDED CHARACTERISTICS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • The ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups

  • Enthusiasm, cheerfulness and a willingness to learn

  • Enjoy interacting with the public

  • Comfortable with public speaking

  • Interest in local, regional and national history helpful, though not required

 

 

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

 

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Work requires frequent physical effort such as sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling and lifting light to moderately heavy objects. Work also requires physical dexterity in the frequent use of hand-eye coordination, manipulative skills using fingers and limbs and the ability to traverse stairs.

Position summary:  

Manual work assisting with cleaning and performing custodial and minor facilities maintenance of buildings and grounds for the EarlyWorks Family of Museums with the primary focus being on the EarlyWorks Children’s Museum. Work assignments are received from the Museum Manager of the assigned location and are carried out in accordance with established procedures. Work is evaluated through inspections, observation of work preformed, the appearance and condition of the facility assigned, and performance evaluations.

 

 

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Utilizes cleaners, chemicals, and disinfectants to clean and sanitize restrooms including sinks, counter tops, mirrors, commodes, urinals, waste cans and floors; restocks restroom supplies including soap, toilet tissue, and paper towels; cleans water fountains.

  • Sweeps/mops hallways, elevators, stairways; vacuums carpets, floor mats, and flooring in public and office areas.

  • Collects and disposes of all trash from public and office areas

  • Performs a variety of grounds maintenance duties such as sweeping, raking, trash removal and light building/grounds maintenance

  • Cleans exterior and interior windows and blinds

  • Picks up and disposes of litter at all inside and outside areas.

  • Utilizes cleaning equipment such as vacuums, various mops, brooms, ringer bucket, pressure washer, blower, and other related equipment while performing essential functions.

  • Assist with the reset of rooms and displays by moving furniture and materials

  • Assists with set-up and take down of tables, picnic tables, chairs and benches as needed for groups, special functions and events.

 

 

Recommended Preparation for Employment:

  • Knowledge of cleaning materials, equipment, methods and procedures

  • Ability to use cleaning materials and equipment effectively

  • Ability to perform manual and semi-skilled work

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction

  • Ability to assist the public in a courteous manor

 

Necessary Special Requirement:

  • Valid driver’s license

  • High School diploma or equivalent desired
